Spring is right around the corner and, now that the snow is gone (at least temporarily!), it’s a good time to check the entryway and exterior of your storefront or building for litter and other debris that may have accumulated during the winter months.

First impressions matter to consumers, especially when it comes to your storefront and entryway, according to reporter Amy Milshtein, who covers design, facility management and business topics for a variety of trade publications and consumer magazines.

“An astounding 95 percent of shoppers report that exterior appearance influences where they spend their dollars,” Milshtein said. “More telling, 52 percent of consumers have avoided a business altogether because it looked dirty from the outside. A beautifully-presented storefront will attract customers; consistent entryway cleaning will keep them coming back.”

Recommendations include:

  • Removing trash and debris daily from the parking lot and any greenspace surrounding the building;
  • Sweeping sidewalks and entryway daily—doing so will prevent customers from tracking debris into your business;
  • Washing windows weekly;
  • Cleaning doors frequently, including knobs or pulls, to remove dirt, bacteria and viruses.

A clean and tidy business district is everyone’s responsibility, so please do your part to keep the sidewalk, parking lot, entryway and area along fencing on your property free of litter and debris. The Morgan Park Beverly Hills Business Association is happy to provide the names of local environmental cleaning and maintenance services upon request.

P.S. We are acutely aware of the challenges created by the gravel and other debris from the ongoing Peoples Gas projects that have left many of our sidewalks torn up and/or unfinished. We have contacted Peoples Gas for a timeline on sidewalk repair and finishing work and will share information as soon as it is received.
