Since 1976, February has been recognized as Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history.
The achievements of African Americans in the Beverly/Morgan Park community are numerous, especially in the business community. Dozens of local black-owned businesses offer goods and services—from women’s clothing, furniture, financial services and fitness classes to dining/catering, childcare, healthcare and dentistry/orthodontics, to name just a few.
These entrepreneurs have invested in the community and contributed to its vibrancy and economic health.
The Morgan Park Beverly Hills Business Association is proud of the diversity of the local business community and is committed to fostering an environment of inclusiveness, collaboration and support for all. Thus, we are asking the community to join in celebrating the hard work, creativity and passion of African-American entrepreneurs by making a conscious effort to support them not only this month, but every month.
Supporting black-owned businesses in Beverly/Morgan Park is an easy thing to do if you make a commitment to spend your dollars locally. Because of the high number of black-owned businesses in every sector of the local economy, they’ll be sure to benefit from consumers who make that choice.
Make an effort to visit a shop or eatery that you may be unfamiliar with and consciously seek out businesses close to home for goods and services that you may currently travel outside the neighborhood to acquire. Get to know business owners—many of whom live in the community—and share positive experiences with neighbors and friends.
Buying local not only feels good, it does good by continually strengthening the economic base of the community. Thank you for giving our African American entrepreneurs some well deserved attention and for supporting the local business community in Beverly Hills and Morgan Park!
