Island Furs

In October 1994, Gerard J. Brown and Berry James, Jr. opened Island Furs at 1827 W. 103rd Street in the Beverly community. Providing master furrier experience and superior customer service has allowed Island Furs to become the only African American full service fur salon in the Chicagoland area.

With the passing of James in 2019, Brown has continued the business, working diligently to provide exceptional service throughout Chicago. He is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the business this year.

When looking into the history of the building at 1827 W. 103rd Street, Gerard discovered that it has housed a furrier since the 1940s, with two owners preceding Island Furs. Stop in to see photos of the business and the owners from their early years.
